Greetings, all Pagoda Writers!!
Join us next weekend at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education (3000 Penn Ave, West Lawn, PA 19609) on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Use the far right entrance and look for us in Art Studio 2. The friendly staff at the desk can assist you, if needed. (Yocum on Google Maps) This month we present John Kissinger. After over 4 decades of working among books, John's retirement has been spent pursuing his writing dreams. His series of novels are centered on the exploits of Wayne Hoyer, private investigator, and Cheyenne Grigsby, high school senior.
He will share the processes, tasks and resources he uses to help him imagine and narrate a fictional character he has never been: a 17-year-old young woman, including using music and photographs and experiences for inspirations in a visual presentation, "Cheyenne--How an Imaginary Person Becomes Real."
After hearing how John uses an invented perspective, or persona, for a main character that is vastly different from his own, we will explore how to use this imaginative and useful tool in our writing, and how it can enhance storytelling, even when using our own perspective.
